Physicist, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Physics, Nanjing University, Distinguished Teacher of Higher Education in Jiangsu Province. He currently serves as Chairman of the Academic Committee of the School of Physics, Nanjing University, Director of Nanjing National Laboratory of Microstructures (in preparation), Director of the 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center of Artificial Microstructure Science and Technology under the Ministry of Education, and concurrently Chairman of the CAS Academician Advisory Committee in Jiangsu. He previously held the positions of Director and Chairman of the Academic Committee of the National Laboratory of Solid State Microstructures, Editor-in-Chief of Progress in Physics, and Associate Editor of five SCI journals. He was awarded the honorary title of National Model Worker in 2010.

He has long devoted himself to condensed matter physics research and delivered a series of innovative achievements in quantum transport theory, magnetic nanostructures and low-dimensional physics, superconductivity and correlated electron theory. He successively served as the Chief Scientist of the National Major Scientific Research Program "Quantum Manipulation" under the Ministry of Science and Technology for two consecutive terms. He has won one Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award and five Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards. By the end of 2021, he had published more than 400 academic papers in SCI journals, including 158 articles in Physical Review, 28 articles in Physical Review Letters, and 8 articles in sister journals of Nature.
