Research Interests: Generation, storage, manipulation and detection of multiphoton quantum states

Xiaosong Ma obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University (1999–2003), Master’s degree from Leiden University, the Netherlands (2003–2005), and PhD from the University of Vienna (2005–2010). He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, Austrian Academy of Sciences from 2010 to 2012, and then as a Marie Curie Fellow at Yale University, USA from 2012 to 2015. He joined Nanjing University at the end of 2015 and currently holds a professorship.

Professor Xiaosong Ma’s research covers experimental quantum optics, quantum communication and quantum simulation. Adopting state-of-the-art experimental quantum optics techniques, his group realizes the generation, manipulation and detection of single-photon and multiphoton quantum states for applications in quantum communication and quantum information technology. He has presided over one sub-project of the National Key R&D Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology (completed in 2022) and participated in another; he also leads one General Program and one International Cooperation Program funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. His academic honors include Young Overseas High-level Talent under the Central Organization Department (2014), Jiangsu Outstanding Youth Fund (2017), Jiangsu Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Talent (2016), EU Marie Curie Fellow, Top 10 Optical Breakthroughs in China – Fundamental Research Category (2019), and Springer-Nature Annual High-Impact Research by Chinese Authors (2020).
