
Research Interests: Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE), artificial micro-nano structured semiconductor quantum wells, superlattices and heterojunction materials, and their applications in optoelectronic devices and energy fields
Dr. Hong Lu earned her Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the Department of Chemistry, City University of New York, majoring in nanotechnology and materials science. After graduation, she conducted research on the improvement and development of molecular beam epitaxy technology at the Department of Materials and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California, Santa Barbara. Her work covers the fabrication, modulation and development of diverse material systems, such as III-V semiconductor epitaxial thin films and superlattices, rare-earth metal compounds and nanostructures, as well as rare-earth metal/III-V semiconductor nanocomposites, alongside their applications in various fields. Her research scope involves thermoelectric energy conversion, plasmonics, quantum computing, terahertz emission and detection, etc.She has published more than 80 papers in top international journals including Science, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, Physical Review Letters and Journal of the American Chemical Society. She has been invited to deliver invited talks at multiple universities in the United States, Hong Kong and other regions, chaired international conferences, served as a grant reviewer for several American scientific organizations, and acted as a peer reviewer for numerous international academic journals. She was selected into the 5th Batch of National Overseas High-level Talents Program in 2014. Currently, she works as a professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Nanjing University.
