On December 27, 2024, to promote academic exchange and cooperation as well as drive technological innovation, the Shishan Quantum Computation and Quantum Detection Laboratory invited renowned physicist Professor Wang Zidan for a visit. He conducted in-depth academic exchanges with researchers from the laboratory.

Professor Wang Zidan enjoys an outstanding reputation in academic circles at home and abroad. His research spans multiple disciplines including physics, chemistry, and materials science, with numerous significant achievements to his name. Currently, Professor Wangs research focus centers on two cutting-edge areas: first, quantum information; second, theoretical and computational condensed matter physics.

Professor Yang Yu, Director of the laboratory, extended a warm welcome to Professor Wang Zidan and briefly introduced the laboratory’s basic background, research directions, and latest progress. Professor Wang highly praised the research environment and equipment conditions at Shishan Laboratory, and conducted in-depth discussions with its researchers on quantum simulation, the architecture and development trends of quantum computing, non-Hermitian physics, and other related topics. In response to researchers’ questions about the future development of quantum simulation, Professor Wang said: “In the field of quantum simulation, we pay special attention to how to use quantum systems to simulate complex physical processes. This may bring revolutionary changes to fields such as materials science and drug design. Its development is not only a technical issue but also involves a fundamental understanding of physics. We need to continuously explore new theories and methods to advance this field.”

Meanwhile, Professor Wang also shared his research achievements and experiences as a theoretical physicist, providing valuable insights for the laboratory’s research work.

This academic exchange activity has not only enhanced the visibility of the Suzhou Campus of Nanjing University and Shishan Laboratory but also provided valuable learning opportunities for the laboratory’s researchers. It is believed that under the guidance of Professor Wang Zidan, the scientific research of Shishan Laboratory will reach new heights.

On December 30, 2024, Professor Wang Zidan was invited to the Gulou Campus of Nanjing University, where he delivered an exciting lecture titled Non-Hermitian topological phases and beyond to teachers and students of the School of Physics. In this lecture, Professor Wang explained the concepts, properties of non-Hermitian topological phases and their significant implications in modern physics in a simple and accessible manner. With his unique perspective, Professor Wang guided the audience to explore the mysteries of this cutting-edge field, revealing the novel physical phenomena and potential application values in non-Hermitian systems.

In the future, Shishan Laboratory will collaborate with the School of Physics at Nanjing University to host more high-level academic lectures, providing broader opportunities for teachers and students to communicate with top scholars from home and abroad. We look forward to visits from more academic elites like Professor Wang Zidan, as we jointly promote the advancement of physics research.

Finally, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Professor Wang Zidan for his visit. We look forward to in-depth cooperation between the two parties in scientific research in the future and the achievement of more fruitful results!
